With over 35 years of experience in building sciences, energy conversion processes, and comfort conditioning systems, we can help add function to form in your residential design activities.
The majority of energy used in the United States is for building operation. And, the majority of the building energy usage is for residential buildings. Properly designed residences, however, should require very little energy. As demonstrated by our innovative Equinox House project, an affordable, fully solar powered home can be built in challenging climates such as Illinois with frigid arctic blasts in the winter and hot, humid doldrums of summer.
Newell Instruments personnel are committed to sustainable residential design, as demonstrated by our solar powered laboratory facility in Urbana Illinois that features superinsulated walls and roof, and ground source heat pump building conditioning system. Our 100 percent solar powered Equinox House project is the latest demonstration of our capabilities and technologies.
Whether you are an individual designing the home of your dreams or a large developer, we can help you find cost effective solutions for energy efficient residences. Beyond design analyses, construction management and performance testing must occur to ensure that your design becomes reality. Our field experience can help you avoid the pitfalls that cause so many homes to fall short of performance expectations.
Perhaps you are a utility or government agency trying to learn about the characteristics of super-efficient homes? We can conduct research projects, including the use of our Equinox House as a platform for activities of interest.
