Dec 18, 2009: Finishing Roof, Sun Pictures
The house is up!
The weather held out just enough to finish the panel installation and get tar paper up on the roof. Perfect timing. The crew really worked hard over the past few days of decent weather we had to get the SIPs done.
Next will be installing the windows, garage door, house doors, and metal roof. We can take a breath and slow down a bit on the interior. We had a meeting with a company this morning to discuss a smart breaker panel system that they offer. This will allow us to both monitor and control the house circuits to optimize efficiency and reduce energy use. Hopefully we can decide on this soon, so that we can get the breaker panel installed, run wiring to the solar system, and start generating power. We are putting together some data about the energy it took to erect the house to this point, so we can show how this is offset by our solar production.
One more note. There should be an article on Newell Instruments and the Equinox House in the News Gazette perhaps in this Sunday’s paper. I don’t know if it will be available online or what section, but I’ll find out. Keep an eye out for it.
External pictures of the completed house structure. Tar paper has been added to the roof. We still need to build out the roof overhangs.
A couple distance shots of the house from across the pond.
Luckily the sun decided to show itself for a bit and we could get some shots of light entering the main living area. The room is actually taller than it is wide.
